Focus Group in Poland Explores the Role of AI in Future Healthcare
As part of the FoH – Future of Healthcare Erasmus+ project, a focus group session was successfully organised in Poland by Danmar Computers. The meeting brought together nursing students and early-career healthcare professionals to discuss how Artificial Intelligence is shaping healthcare education and professional practice.
The session aimed to collect insights from future healthcare professionals regarding their experiences with AI tools, the competencies required to use them responsibly, and the ethical and communication challenges associated with AI-supported healthcare environments. The discussion provided valuable contributions for the ongoing development of the FoH Framework and the project’s training modules, which aim to support healthcare professionals in integrating AI responsibly into patient care.
Participants highlighted that while AI is increasingly present in healthcare education and digital tools, its use in direct clinical practice remains limited for many young professionals. At the same time, the discussion revealed a strong interest in developing competencies that combine technical AI literacy with communication, ethical awareness, and professional judgement.
The insights gathered during the session will contribute to shaping the FoH Framework, which promotes human-centred healthcare, responsible AI use, and patient-focused communication in future healthcare systems.
Implications for Future Healthcare Training
The discussion confirmed the importance of developing training programs that prepare healthcare professionals to use AI responsibly. Participants stressed that future healthcare education should include:
• Practical training on evaluating AI-generated information
• Understanding the limitations and risks of AI systems
• Developing communication skills for explaining AI-supported decisions to patients
• Maintaining human-centred care and ethical responsibility in technology-supported healthcare environments.
