International Partners Gather in Ireland to Advance the Future of Healthcare Education, insights from the local media

Partners of the Erasmus+ project Future of Healthcare (FoH) met at Munster Technological University (MTU) in Tralee, Ireland, for a transnational project meeting dedicated to shaping the future of healthcare education in an era increasingly influenced by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation. The meeting brought together experts from healthcare, education, research, and technology sectors representing Ireland, Türkiye, Poland, Italy, and the Czech Republic.
The FoH project addresses a growing challenge across Europe: ensuring that healthcare education keeps pace with rapid technological developments. While AI is already transforming areas such as diagnostics, patient monitoring, clinical decision-making, and health data management, many healthcare training programmes still lack structured approaches for developing the competencies needed to work effectively in AI-enabled healthcare environments.
During the meeting, project partners reviewed progress achieved during the first phase of the project and advanced work on the development of the Future of Healthcare Framework, an innovative methodology designed to support AI literacy and digital competencies among healthcare professionals and students. Discussions also focused on the design of an interactive online learning platform that will host training resources, self-assessment tools, learning modules, and practical guidance for the responsible use of AI in healthcare settings.
A key topic of the meeting was the importance of balancing technological innovation with human-centred healthcare values. Partners emphasised that future healthcare professionals will require not only technical knowledge but also ethical awareness, critical thinking skills, and the ability to evaluate AI-supported decisions while maintaining high standards of patient care. These priorities are closely aligned with emerging international recommendations for trustworthy and responsible AI deployment in healthcare.
The FoH consortium also discussed upcoming pilot activities, training workshops, and stakeholder engagement initiatives that will be implemented across partner countries. These activities will test the project’s framework and training resources with healthcare educators, practitioners, and students, ensuring that the final outputs respond to real workforce needs and contribute to the modernisation of healthcare education throughout Europe.
The meeting reaffirmed the consortium’s shared commitment to preparing healthcare professionals for the opportunities and challenges created by AI and digital innovation. Through international collaboration and knowledge exchange, the FoH project aims to contribute to a more resilient, ethical, and future-ready healthcare workforce across Europe.
